You Won't Believe It

OK, maybe you will. But two days ago Matt and I bought our first pairs of riding shorts....yes, padded butt riding shorts. Mine are spandex, there's no way around it. But Matt reassures me that I don't look bad. Maybe I really am losing weight.

And boy those shorts are comfortable :)

Jill shot down my theory yesterday. She has O+ blood. Darn. Oh, well, even with the best theories, there's always something. Right?

Oh, and I promised Jill I would blog about this, so I will...

I was talking to Jill yesterday, and we were having a good conversation. She told me about a neighbor who expressed disbelief that Jhericko liked to eat eggs. (!) She said "My people don't eat eggs." Well, Jill got to thinking about it, and realized that her mother-in-law always makes bacon and eggs in the morning for her and Demarko, and she eats them too. I said, well there goes that theory. Jill said, well, you know, Demarko's great grandmother was Cherokee. And I think in their language Cherokee means "egg eater." Ha ha. I couldn't stop laughing. She almost finished telling me that before she started laughing too. Jill has got to be my funniest sister. I think she should be a stand up comedienne. :)

Anyways, I guess I better get ready for school. I can't wait for this semester to be over. I think in my one week off, I'm going to crochet a quilt. And maybe this time it will be rectangular instead of mostly triangular.

With flowers in her hair....

Ok, so Matt and I rode our bikes this evening, and I guess I ran into a tree or something, because Matt just pulled 7 tiny flowers from my hair....hmmm...weird, huh.

So I'm trying out a new website. It is called gas free commute and I am going to keep track of miles I've ridden, and how many gallons of gas I save. Also, it tracks calories I've burned, which will be interesting.

Ok, in case I haven't talked to everyone about my theory, here it is.... is there a belief gene? And is it related to blood type? I don't know, but here's my theory. Consider that Mom has A+ blood, and Dad had O+ blood. Now, as far as I know, Mike, Peggy, Beth, and Kate each have A+ blood (I haven't heard from Jill yet). And so far, Pam, Penny, and probably Marie have O+ blood. (Matt doesn't know, and I haven't heard from Lani). I think you all can connect the dots.... :) It is all in fun. You know, Mike and I had were talking (via email) and he used to try to convince his high school biology teacher that red hair is not recessive. How could it be, when 6 out of 10 of us have red hair? Mike's teacher would respond that our family is purely anecdotal but hey, if it can't be seen in practice, right?
Anyways, the other part of my theory, which Mike debunked for me yesterday, was that this was all connected to hair color as well. Red hair is recessive, and O is a recessive blood type too. So, maybe the red heads inherited the O blood type. But since Mike turned out to be A+ (and a believer) then there goes that theory. It would be fun to see what Lani's, Jill's, and Matt's blood types are, just to wrap up the whole story, wouldn't it? (hint, hint)

So, I tried to stop in at Kate's today and pick up "Twilight" so Matt could start reading it tonight, but they weren't home. I guess they went out for FHE. Darn! I was hoping Matt could take the book with him to duty. :( Oh, well.

I'll write more later.

The Disappearing Woman

OK, so I always knew that exercise is good for you. I mean, who doesn't? But I guess what I didn't know is that I could find something that I enjoy and that is challenging and that I could do with my husband. Bike riding has been amazing for me. As of today, after my 45 mile bike ride, I've lost 13 pounds this summer. Since I've started riding a lot. I couldn't believe it when I got on the scale today. Especially since it isn't really that difficult. Bike riding is easy! It is so much easier than running, although I've never been much of a runner, so maybe that's why I think it is hard. And you can go so far on a bike! Today, Matt and I decided to ride at least 43 miles. We wanted to try out some of the bike lanes and trails they have in Virgina Beach. Unfortunately, these lanes and trails aren't actually connected, but we managed. We ended up going really close to the mall, and stopped in to watch Dark Knight, which is an excellent movie, by the way. So we took just a couple hours to do 22.5 miles, and just a couple to ride back. Now, I won't say that the ride today was easy. And the 2.5 hour break for the movie was just a little too long. My muscles were stiff by the time we started back out again. But even though I didn't feel great, I was able to push through it and I made it back home. Now all I want to do is curl up in my pj's and watch some tv. Or maybe play some scramble. Either way, I'm going to relax. I deserve it.

Oh, by the way, I have received blood types from the following: Beth, Peggy, Marie (?), Kate, Penny. So I still need Mike's, Matt's, Lani's, and Jill's. If you don't want the whole world to know (although I don't see why not *shrug*), just email me. That's cool too.

Love you all.

Lil_Green Patch

I'm just trying this out.

Oh, well, I can't get it to do anything more than give me a syntax error.

Our Mother

So, I talked to Mom today. I finally got through. It was so great to talk to her and hear her voice. I guess it has been almost a year since I have talked to her. I think she is having a great time over there, doing her work and learning a lot about herself. She sounds really happy, which makes me happy. She was thinking that I wanted to talk to her because I was pregnant (which I'm not) so I think she was doubly disappointed when what I had to tell her was that I wasn't going to be able to make it to London in October. I'm really bummed out about it, and I didn't want to just email her. I know she's disappointed, but I'm not sure which one she's more disappointed about-that I'm not pregnant, or that I'm not going to go visit her. :)

I just took another test today, on Virginia History. I'm glad I'm in Virginia, because even though I need to take this state's history classes to get certified to teach, Virginia history is so entrenched with US history that they go together nicely. Also, I have taken African-American history (2 semesters) and that history also goes hand in hand with VA history. I also took a VA government and politics class, and learned a lot about the history that way. I think I'm learning a lot, maybe not specifics, but generally how history unfolds and past mistakes our nation has made (and the state of VA). It is funny, because I feel like I know a lot about the history of Idaho, how the different counties came to be, at least from a SE Idahoans perspective. I also know pretty much where all the counties in Idaho are, and what the general layout is. I know that VA has so many more people than ID, and more counties, but there are people in my class that have lived here their whole lives and don't know where a county is that is within 90 miles of them! If it isn't in Hampton Roads, it isn't important to them. (Hampton Roads is the generally agreed upon name for the area I live in. It includes Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk.) It just seems so close minded. Everyone in the state is affected by everyone else. You should have a general idea of where at least the counties are in the state! Anyways, that's my beef for the day. I am absent a husband tonight, he's on duty. So I need to get the house cleaned up. It is so much easier when he's not here. When he's here, I just want to spend time with him, not clean up. I'm sure you all know what I mean.

Oh, before I forget. I am just curious. Peggy and I were talking about blood type. Could each of my siblings post a comment, or send me an email, and let me know what your blood type is? Thanks. If you don't have an account, just post under "anonymous" and sign your name. Thanks guys. Love you. Pam

Some People

Ok, so I got into a couple of interesting discussions with some guys today. Before my history class, I was talking to some classmates. I don't know how we got on the subject, but we started talking about parking. This is a normal subject that normally comes up with students. So, my classmate doesn't think that anyone should have to pay for parking. (!) So when he kept getting parking tickets, he refused to pay them. Finally, just last week, he got so fed up that he went into the parking ticket place and cursed them out, telling them what nonsense the bureaucracy is and how he didn't think he should have to pay, etc. Well, $300 later, he still doesn't think he should have to pay. (On a side note, he was shocked to find that I have not paid for a parking pass since my first semester, and that I just park off campus and walk a little ways. It is totally worth it; I get exercise, it is free, and I don't fight with people over spaces.) So then we got to talking about riding bikes to school, which isn't possible for him, but he could bring his bike in his car and park off campus and ride from there. He said he had a problem with crossing the street, he just doesn't like to do it. I told him that bikes are marginally more visible than pedestrians, depending on what you're wearing, and you could always get the big bright vest. Well, he didn't like that idea, he said that he refuses to do things like that, wear bright clothing, or helmets or wear a seatbelt. He said that he is a believer in civil liberties and he thinks that if you buy a car with your own money you should be able to do what you want in it. That means if you don't want to wear your seatbelt that is your right. I had to disagree with him. I am a believer in civil liberties. I just don't think that making seat belts mandatory is infringing on those liberties. Sure, when YOUR car is parked in YOUR driveway that YOU bought with YOUR money, you can do what you want. But once you take it out onto public roads, that taxpayers (including yourself, but not just you) have paid for, then that is a different story. Then you have to follow the rules put in place by the system that you participate in. The people who make the rules have been elected by the people, and their rules should be followed by the people. I guess when it comes right down to it, yes, you are at liberty to do what you want. Don't wear a seatbelt, but don't complain when the cop gives you a ticket for it.

And we didn't even get into who pays for the doctor's bills when someone gets into an accident, but that is a different story....

Later, in class, we were discussing transportation. This is not a new subject, in fact, Virginians have been debating it since Virginia was brand new. It is the same old story: who should pay for the roads? One of my classmates is pretty vocal about the subject. He seems to think that Virginians pay too many taxes: the gas tax is too high, the personal property tax is too high, it is all too high for him. What he doesn't realize is that VA has one of the lowest gas taxes in the country. This is what the problem is. We don't have money to pay for the roads that everyone is driving on. So what's the solution? Tolls? No, he thinks that tolls are also a bad idea. But when asked what the solution is, he threw up his hands and said, "I don't know. I'm not a politician." These kinds of people frustrate me. Where do they think money comes from? How can we pay for the things we take for granted every day. We all use the roads, someone has to pay for them. Tolls seem like the ultimate answer; make the people that use the roads pay for the use. But then, I don't think that is the entire answer. Go down to your local Food Lion, or Old Navy, and those goods in the stores had to come from somewhere. How do you account for that? Does the company have to pay a toll to use the roads? Or should some sort of tax be placed on the goods themselves? Oh, wait. I forgot. Taxes are bad, too. I guess there is no easy answer.

Soo....

So, something happened to me today, and I really wanted to blog about it, just go off and say what I was really feeling. But I think that some of the people who read my blog would get offended, so I decided not to. If anyone is really interested, you should call me! I'll give you the scoop.

Ok, Matt and I are going to go to bed early tonight. We've been staying up way too late the last week, and we need to get used to hitting the sack early. So, off to bed.

I'll blog more later, maybe. I guess that's the thing with a public blog. Either you care about the people who read it or you don't. I care. So I won't go off. :)

Love you all.
Pam

PS. My hand hurts! I hurt it on the beach on Friday, and it still hasn't healed. Ugh, nothing worse than a sore on your right palm. Do you realize how much you use your right hand?
